Cattle hooves play a critical role in their bodies, providing support for their weight, facilitating movement, and enabling various activities. Unhealthy livestock hooves can disrupt cattle mobility, leading to reduced productivity over time. Hoof health demands attention, particularly for animals housed in confined spaces. Damp and unclean environments can lead to interdigital injuries, allowing harmful microorganisms to enter. Proper hoof care is essential for maintaining livestock health and productivity.
In order to enhance public awareness about the significance of maintaining livestock hoof health, BBIB Singosari has launched an International Online Class with the theme "Healthy Livestock Hooves, Ensuring Great Productivity: Tips & Tricks for Animal Manicure and Pedicure." This online class took place on April 13, 2023, with participants from various parts of Indonesia and some from abroad. Esteemed speakers from BBIB Singosari, including Drh. Akbar, M.P, Head of BBIB Singosari, and Drh. Deddy F. Kurniawan, CEO of Dairy Pro Indonesia, led the class. The event was supported by the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (PDHI), PDHI Jatim 2, Indonesian Society of Cattle Veterinarians (IDHSI), and Dairy Pro Indonesia.
The online class commenced with a keynote address by Drh. Akbar, M.P., Head of BBIB Singosari, delving into the topic "BBIB Singosari: PMK-Free with Assured Safe Frozen Semen." Drh. Jumaryoto, M.Sc., then discussed the importance of maintaining livestock hoof health, followed by Drh. Heni Sri Maryati's exploration of "Types and Disorders of Livestock Hooves." A livestreamed video showcased the Technique of Livestock Hoof Care, presented by Dani Atma S, Amd. The pinnacle presentation, "Effective Handling of Livestock Hoof Diseases," was delivered by Drh. Deddy F. Kurniawan.
"Past PMK conditions posed challenges for our livestock breeders. Now, we must rise through Repopulation by optimizing Artificial Insemination technology. Breeders need not fret, as the frozen semen produced by BBIB Singosari is guaranteed in terms of safety and health. Thus, it's undoubtedly PMK-free," emphasized Drh. Akbar, M.P during the online class.
During the same event, Drh. Deddy F. Kurniawan remarked, "Hoof issues in livestock are of paramount importance; specialized international conferences even address this matter. The success of livestock breeding can be determined by whether their cows exhibit lameness. Lame cows experience reduced productivity, often due to hoof conditions. That's why it's imperative for breeders to comprehend proper hoof care techniques."
Through this online class, the aspiration is to disseminate understanding among the public, especially livestock breeders, about the critical nature of maintaining hoof health. This endeavor will ensure ongoing livestock well-being and uphold the sustainability of breeding initiatives. (*)
