DEFRI WERDIONO July 25, 2017 13:21 WIB MALANG, KOMPAS — Several delegates from Suriname visited the Balai Besar Inseminasi Buatan (BBIB) in Singosari, Malang Regency, East Java, on Tuesday (25/7). They came to participate in a knowledge-sharing program in the field of agricultural development and artificial insemination, which will continue until July 28. In addition to visiting BBIB Singosari, during their time in Malang Raya, the delegates from Suriname are also planned to visit several places such as Singosari Tea Plantation, Brawijaya University, Gading Kulon Village in DAU Sub-district, PT Green Field Indonesia, and Agro Niaga Jabung Cooperative. This knowledge-sharing activity is an implementation of the South-South cooperation memorandum of understanding between the Indonesian government and the Islamic Development Bank. Enneik Herwijanti, the head of BBIB Singosari, said that before the delegates from Suriname arrived, a team from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture had previously visited Suriname for a diagnostic mission in April. The team assessed potential areas of cooperation that Indonesia and the Islamic Development Bank could support. “Finally, facilitated by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the Suriname delegation came here. Through artificial insemination, we hope to foster further cooperation,” she said.
The success rate of artificial insemination in the majority of developing countries is relatively low. The cause of this is generally the lack of adequate supporting infrastructure in those countries. Indonesia is proficient in performing successful artificial insemination. “Indonesia's expertise in the field of artificial insemination can be shared with Suriname due to the unique relationship between Indonesia and Suriname,” Enneik added.
